This blog is dedicated to the memory of my son Louis Edward Joseph whom I miss very much. I choose Costa Rica as my the ideal retirement spot many years ago when friends invited me down after they retired from the U.S. Air Force. Dave and I spent a lot of time in different areas of the country. We ran away from the beach towns on both coasts because of the heat and humidity. We checked out some towns in the Central Valley and finally decided on the beautiful mountain paradise of Grecia. Once I decided to take early retirement (I did the math), I created a timeline and a plan to downsize my life. I left my job with the Commonwealth of Virginia and got on a plane headed for Costa Rica to begin the second part of my golden life. My only regret is leaving Dave in Virginia. He’s still working and has a few things to deal with before he retires and joins me. The distance between us is both purposefully and necessary.
